Boutique Hotel. Only the words have the imagination. Even before the dog-eared pages of the first book Hip Hotels Herbert Ypma I was fascinated by the world of boutique hotel properties. "What good would it be to be the general manager of a boutique hotel great?" I often found myself wondering as I flipped through the pages of his great photos. I work hard to make a career out of the hotel industry, I was convinced that I just had to be involved with a boutique one day.
That day came true, when in 2004 I was invited to be the general manager of what was and still is one of Palm Springs most hip boutique hotels. I got another great opportunity just to be part of this world amazing. Art, design, ambience. I had never worked at any place with an "environment". A year later and I knew, I knew what many in the hotel industry not ... what it is really like to be the GM of a hip, cool boutique hotel. Not for the whole world and surprising to many.
